Ukraine Fundraiser

Featuring Ukrainian Easter Eggs!
In Ukrainian, they’re called Pysanky.

Tiber Canyon Ranch is hosting a fundraiser on April 9 to raise funds for Ukrainian refugees. All proceeds from the event will go to Direct Relief and World Central Kitchen. Both of these organizations do amazing work and are top rated by Charity Navigator.

Detailed plans for the event are still being worked on, but as of right now they are planning a silent auction, music, pizza for sale and the opportunity for people to learn how to write (that’s what decorating Ukrainian eggs is called) Pysanky. They also are kindly asking for donated items for the silent auction, such as ceramic pieces.

Here’s where you come in. We’re asking a bunch of our artist friends to write some Pysanky before the event that will be included in the silent auction. We have ordered everything you will need (except the eggs). We’ll arrange to get them to you ASAP. At the end of this email there are some links to how-to videos. Don’t be intimidated by the complexity of the eggs in the videos. You can see from the photos above that they can be much more simple and less traditional if so desired. You can make as many or as few as you like. Write them with your heart. They are considered a blessing to those who receive them.

It is said that the Hutzuls–Ukrainians who live in the Carpathian Mountains of Western Ukraine–believe that the fate of the world depends upon the pysanky.

As long as the egg decorating custom continues, the world will exist. If, for any reason, this custom is abandoned, evil will overrun the world. If the number of pysanky created each year is low the chains binding evil are loosened and evil is free to wander the earth causing havoc and destruction. If, on the other hand, the number of pysanky has increased, the chains on evil are tightened and good triumphs over evil for yet another year.

Please stop by the studio during open hours if you are interested in donating to the silent auction!
